Ch 6 Destined To Reign by Joseph Prince review pgs. 62-69

The devil doesn’t want you to draw closer to God, the Answer to all your problems, your Miracle worker, your Healer, and your Provider. He wants you to stay ignorant. Then you are under bondage, sick, and in poverty. Under the old covenant, (Leviticus 26:28) God punished those that disobeyed seven times for their sins. But, we are under the new covenant of grace, because Jesus took our punishment for us.
Pg. 64 Isaiah 53: 4, 5
Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.
What perfect timing with Resurrection Day being yesterday. During the time of the Roman Empire, the soldiers had various instruments of cruelty and torture at their disposal. The infamous cat-o’-nine-tails was a whip with nine chains. To each chain was attached many metal shards and hooks, so that when a prisoner was beaten with it, the metal shards and hooks would latch onto his flesh and rip it apart when the whip was jerked back. That is why the prophet Isaiah described Jesus as having “no form of comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.” Pg. 65 Jesus’ flesh was torn apart and He was violently scourged beyond human recognition. The chastisement that we deserved came upon Jesus, so that you and I will never have to go through what He endured on our behalf. To believe/preach that God chastises us with sickness/disease/tragedy/accidents is to negate Jesus’ finished work on the cross. Jesus was punished under the old covenant so that we could enjoy the spoils of grace. God will never again chastise the believer for sin! Whatever condition you have today, it is not from the Lord! Look to Jesus on the cross. See Him beaten and scourged on your behalf. Receive healing and wholeness from Him. He has paid the price for your total healing. Today, He redeems your life from destruction. By His stripes you are healed!!! Hebrews 12:5 “… ‘ My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; for whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.’” Joseph Prince claims the original Greek word here for “chastens” is poorly translated. The word is paideuo, which means “child training”. It does not mean to punish. Pg. 66 Pai = pediatrician. Deuo = to teach a child. The next verse says: If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? Prince goes on to ask: would you give your son a terminal disease to teach him a lesson? Why would you think your Father in heaven would? Why would God give a person a terminal illness to teach patience? What good is the tutorial if the student dies during the lesson? Pg. 67 When you train a child, you give lessons that teach the child things that will be of benefit in the future. There is no future if the pupil dies! God’s righteous anger against sin was achieved 2,000 years ago. Today, we can expect grace, not punishment. Thank You, Jesus! We will never be disciplined in the old covenant way ever again. There is child training under the new covenant, however. If we wouldn’t torture our children with sickness, disease, or accidents to teach lessons, then why would we expect our Heavenly Father to? He is love! Pg. 68 He is our Abba. Abba is the most affectionate Hebrew term you can possibly use to address a father. It means “Daddy”! Psalm 103: 1-5 Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, Bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Pg. 69 Now that’s what I’m talking about! I feel foolish for ever thinking that Abba would ever want otherwise. He is full of grace and mercy. He wants us to be healthy, prosperous, and protected from evil. Not only does He want this He wants to be the source of it!
